During my tenure as a Graphic Designer at The News Virginian, I had the opportunity to represent our local publication in the prestigious Virginia Press Association Annual Awards. This award-winning print advertisement for Rick’s BBQ & Catering earned First Place in the Food & Drug category, competing against a wide field of talent across the state.
What makes this achievement particularly meaningful is the nature of the VPA competition. Entries are judged by objective media professionals from other states and organized into circulation groups. This ensures a level playing field, where the quality of the work and the strength of the creative concept are what matter most. Bringing home top honors for our local newspaper was not just a personal milestone, but a testament to the high-caliber design and professional excellence we provided to our community and local business owners every day.
