During my time at The News Virginian, I continued to represent our publication in the Virginia Press Association (VPA) annual awards. The VPA is a statewide organization that recognizes excellence across Virginia’s media landscape, with entries evaluated by objective, out-of-state judges to ensure high standards of creative strategy and technical skill.
This promotional insert for Milmont Greenhouse earned 2nd Place in the Single-Sheet Inserts category for 2015. Designed for their annual Rose Festival, the layout uses a fresh, garden-inspired palette to organize a variety of event highlights, from seminars to local vendors.
Design Strategy:
- Visual Storytelling: Used high-resolution floral photography to immediately communicate the “Rose Festival” theme and evoke a seasonal feel.
- Grid and Hierarchy: Organized dense information—including seminar times, discount offers, and a vendor list—into distinct visual sections using circular frames to keep the reader’s eye moving down the page.
- Co-Branding: Integrated well-known local logos like Chick-fil-A and Sunrise Farms while maintaining the primary Milmont Greenhouse brand identity.
